A senior Russian military figure has been killed following an detonation in Moscow, according to an investigative body.
The incident took place on Monday morning when an IED planted beneath a vehicle exploded, resulting in the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.
Sarvarov was the head of the armed forces' department for training operations.
The committee mentioned that one line of inquiry points to the potential involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. So far, Ukraine has offered no public response.
Location of the Attack
Officials have been sent to the location, which is reportedly in a south district of the capital.
Reports indicate the explosion happened in a parking area close to a residential building.
Pattern of Assaults
Since the start of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, a string of Russian military officials have been attacked within Moscow.
This new event follows other high-profile incidents, for instance:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was lost his life in a vehicle explosion in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov died in late 2024 when a explosive placed on a scooter was triggered from afar.
While a source from Ukraine earlier attributed Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such allegations are rarely officially confirmed as a matter of standard practice.
Hostilities has witnessed shadowy operations extending into the heart of the Russian capital.
The investigation into General Sarvarov's death continues to be active.
