Passenger services have resumed at Edinburgh Airport following a significant ATC system failure halted all operations.

All aircraft movements were halted due to an technical fault that was reported at approximately 08:30.

A number of travelers reported being stuck in planes on the runway while the issue persisted.

Services Recommence with Ongoing Delays

A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, significant disruption are expected to persist for some time. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with many others facing hold-ups.

Officials had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Travelers are urged to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their specific flights," the statement added.

Cause of the Chaos

The airport attributed the operational halt to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.

Flyers are still being urged to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the airport as knock-on effects are cleared.
