It has been confirmed that original stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.

A Significant Reunion for Fans

The duo will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their roles will take the form of a brief glimpse ahead, as the original saga concluded with their characters married and with children.

This represents the sixth installment in the global Hunger Games franchise.

Delving Into the Prequel

Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed most of the previous films in the series.

The Storyline and Fresh Faces

The film's story are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

The supporting roles feature several accomplished actors in key parts:

• Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes will appear as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.

What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule

Separately, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the production schedule:

1. Principal photography commenced in the summer of 2025.
2. Filming reportedly wrapped in November of the same year.
3. The much-discussed film is targeting a November 2026 premiere.
