The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Transition Follows Poor Feedback

Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last autumn.

Recently, 2K president a key figure notified team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the requirement for a clearer game identity.

The president noted that the team is now overhauling the project with a refreshed approach, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment

The news echoes a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise development group.

The community feedback from last fall’s the game playtest was enlightening. It affirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the necessity for a clearer identity.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the feedback to mind and reimagined the title with a renewed direction - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our fans.

Our confidence in this project grows every day. To boost the remarkable progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. Following some time of discussions, Ben starts with us on next week.

His management and background in the PVP shooter field is considerable, having spent the last 15 years developing and leading some of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

The appointee presently serves in the position of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in various production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, prior to that, had periods at other industry leaders.
