The Reds Vows Not to Change Offensive Approach Despite Recent Slump, Insists Arne Slot
The Dutch manager has stated that the team leadership agree with his assessment regarding the poor performance streak and he refuses to compromise their forward-thinking philosophy in pursuit of a solution. The head coach admitted that six defeats in seven outings was not good enough ahead of Aston Villa's visit.
Pressure Mounting Amid Challenging Phase
Liverpool's coach recognized the pressure was on before his altered lineup were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against their Premier League rivals. However, he insisted that this pressure to arrest the slide is not coming from the Anfield hierarchy or football administration following a substantial investment of almost £450m.
"Our views align," remarked the Liverpool boss, whose team next week face Los Blancos in the Champions League and play against the Citizens in the domestic competition.
Player Depth Continues Undoubted
The coach is convinced his team "possess an exceptional group if they are fully healthy and all ready for the fixture list". He noted that the recent signings in talents including Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, who is likely to miss out again against Aston Villa through injury, had left the club "in a strong situation for the short-term future and the years to come".
Team Cohesion Issues
When pressed on why his team were struggling to integrate, he responded: "You don't really help me. 'What are the reasons?' I offer insights and people say I'm making justifications. I can come up with five or six reasons why we are struggling for victories or losing as much as we do but, as I always emphasize, there are insufficient justifications to have a run of form as we had now."
- Even if I could list numerous reasons
- Leading this club you cannot lose
- The reality is six defeats in seven games
Backline Performance
Only the Clarets (21) have conceded more clear opportunities from normal situations this season than the Merseysiders (19). The first-place team, Arsenal, have allowed just two. Yet Slot denies the team has been overly exposed and claims there is no reason to abandon offensive philosophy for a cautious system after ten fixtures without a goalless performance.
"In my view we're not giving up numerous openings so I find no basis to change our playing style completely but we must improve in preventing goals," he stated.
Recent Examples
"Versus the Red Devils, how many opportunities did we allow? Versus the German side when we were ahead by two goals, we barely allowed a shot on target. In each fixture we have competed in we haven't conceded a lot of chances. Not at all. We do concede a somewhat more than last season but that stems from us being behind early so you take a bit more risk. But typically I don't believe that our issue is that we allow too many opportunities. Our challenge is we fail to convert the openings we produce."
